So why would you want a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter)?

Most audio and video files are stored in digital formats. In order to get sound from your speakers, the digital signal must be converted to an analog signal.
Practically, all consumer electronics, such as Mac computers, PC's, DVD players and iPod®s, have internal DAC's. If your electronic device has analog outputs - Red (Right), White (Left) or headphone jack - then it has an internal DAC.
The problem is that most of these internal DAC's are inexpensive and not very good. As a result, the sound produced by your speakers is "compressed" and not very "musical".
With the Beresford TC-7520, you should find that the dynamic range is improved - higher high's and lower low's - as well as the clarity - things you never heard before. That is why you should buy a DAC.
